NEW RENTAL SCHEME SEES TENANT’S ‘BEST FRIEND’ LET OFF THE LEAD

Posted on Friday, 07 April 2006 11:38AM by R. FLAY
Looking for an apartment with an armadillo or a flat with your four-legged friend?

Help is at hand for hapless tenants, who otherwise face having to leave their ‘best friend’ behind, with the launch of a new scheme…Lets with Pets.

Belvoir, the UK’s biggest lettings specialist, has set up a bespoke service for renting to animal lovers.

Belvoir! Sheffield owner Rick Flay said, “For many people perhaps leaving home for the first time or facing new challenges after the break up of a relationship, the thought of leaving their ‘best friend’ behind is too much to bear.

“Traditionally, such tenants have found it difficult to secure good quality rented accommodation with their pet.  Many landlords have flatly refused or imposed huge restrictions on the tenant.

“Now, as part of our continuing quest to provide what is needed in the marketplace, we are offering for the first time specialised lets all over the country for tenants with animals.  With an increasingly transient population in the UK, we feel it is also important to offer a service for different tenant groups, such as those seeking lets with pets.”

Belvoir, which has almost 90 locally owned offices across the UK and a nationwide property portfolio worth more than £1.2 billion, has set up a special hotline on 08452 60 40 90 to handle enquiries for tenancies with animals.

Belvoir has compiled a local database of those properties in its ‘lets with pets’ scheme and those landlords who provide quality accommodation for animal lovers.  The company is also being approached by new client landlords keen to join the new service.

“It’s not a taboo subject,” added Rick.  “If the property falls under our ‘Lets with Pets’ scheme, all the tenants have to do is follow a few simple rules and the landlord will let them live in the property with their ‘best friend’’.

“The new initiative is part of our strategy to drive up standards across all sectors of rented accommodation, providing high quality lets for all types of tenants, including those with pets. It isn’t possible to offer statistics yet of how many we expect to take up this offer locally because it has not been done before”

Bespoke initiatives, such as Lets with Pets, have helped Belvoir enjoy unprecedented growth over the past two years.

Turnover has increased in the Group as a whole by more than 60 per cent, achieved by growing the company’s market share by up to 20 per cent.
